Q.1 How does Toto come to grandfather’s private zoo?

Answer:- Grandfather loves animals very much. He kept getting some birds and animals home. One day at the Tonga- river he saw a very pretty monkey and decided to take him from the Tonga-river for five rupees. He was a little red monkey and grandfather thought that he would add a little fellow to the private zoo.

Q.2 “Toto was a pretty monkey.” In what sense is Toto pretty?

Answer:- Toto was a pretty monkey as he has bright eyes twinkle with naughtiness beneath deep- set eyebrows, and the teeth were white like pearls, when he smiles his teeth was seen very often which frightened elderly Anglo- Indian ladies, his hands looked dried as it was pickled in the sun for so many years.

His fingers were quick and wricked, and the tail of the Toto which served as a third hand. These things added good looks to Toto.

Q.3 Why does grandfather take Toto to Saharanpur and how? Why does the ticket collector insist on calling Toto a dog?

Answers:- Grandfather took Toto to Saharanpur because he was transferred to a big cage in Grandfather’s private zoo. There were many animals like a pair of rabbits, pet goats, a tortoise, and a squirrel.

They lived socially, but Toto didn’t allow his companions to sleep at night as he was so naughty that’s the reason that grandfather decided to take Toto with him. Toto was kept in a big black canvas kit- bag, there was some straw at the bottom that became his new abode.

When the bag was closed Toto couldn’t escape and also couldn’t get his hands out through the opening. The canvas was so strong.

The ticket collector insisted on saying Toto a dog because when Grandfather was producing his ticket at the railway station Toto poked his head out of the bag and gave the ticket collector a surprise.

The collector was shocked, but with great composure and much to grandfather’s displeasure, the ticket collector said, sir , you have a dog with you.

Grand father tried to explain him that toto is a monkey but he said he is a dog and you have to may sum of three rupees

Q.4 How does Toto take a bath? Where has he learnt to do this? How does Toto almost boil himself alive?

Answer :- Toto was given a large bowl of warm water and Toto would test the temperature of water with his hands, then slowly step his one foot into the bath then another, until the water was up to his neck, once he became comfortable he take the soap in the hands or feets and rub himself all over and when the water becomes cold he get out quickly and ran into the kitchen as there was a fire to dry himself. He learned all this from the author ( grandmother).

There was a large kitchen kettle which was left on the fire to boil the tea but Toto was not able to find anything to do so he decided to remove the lid and take bath in the kettle, the water was warm enough he checked the temperature and got in it, sticking his head out of the kettle, at start it was fine but as the water starts boiling

Toto found cold outside but warm inside so he started hopping up and down for some time, until the grandmother came and saved him, half boiled out of the kettle.

Q.5 Why does the author say,”Toto was not the sort of Pet we could keep for long”?

Answer:- As the statement above the author says that toto was not a sort of Pet we could keep for long as Toto was very naughty and disturbing.He doesn’t allow his companions to sleep at night. He disturbs all the other animals and can’t be kept for long.

Everyday he sits at the main door in the afternoon waiting for me when I will be back from school. Now we all love him very much. He also loves us, now he is a part of our family. Yes he was very mischievous at the Beginning but now he is not. He is like our security guard.

Whenever he sees an unknown person entering the house he starts barking even if some noises are coming through the house he starts barking. I love my pet so much. And I’ll pray to god everyday to keep him healthy and energetic.
